The first time I got COVID, it was with my entire chorus. 55 out of 90 singers got it during our three-performance weekend, back in May of ‘22.
The second time I got it was January of ’23, after venturing out to a bar to go dancing. I had gotten the vaccine just a week before.
The third time is now. I am on Day 4 of a big headache, watering eyes, a cough, and weakness. My D.C. daughter arrives in less than a week. I have so much to do to get the house ready for her visit.
I sell dishes and they are everywhere. People want to come buy them but how can they when I am sick? I don’t want to give them COVID. The woman who came on Tuesday wore a mask. I wore a mask. I didn’t tell her I had COVID because I didn’t know I had it. The expired home COVID test came back negative. Yesterday I went to Urgent Care and asked for a test, which came back positive.
Where did I get it? Four days before my first day of symptoms, I went to Costco at 9:00 a.m. and shopped with not many people around me. I carried my mask with me but didn’t put it on.
That evening I went outdoor dancing in a park in Concord. I used a porta potty and washed my hands at the porta station where you pump the water into the faucet. There was soap and paper towels.
The next day I danced in a park in Alamo, I used the bathroom twice, both the permanent one and another Porta potty with soap and water.
Saturday I stayed home to rest and do yard work. I watched a movie that evening.
Sunday I danced in a park in San Ramon and helped a little girl find her dad after she lost her way and was crying her eyes out. I took her to the stage, where my friend Jay put her up on his shoulders, and she saw the playground and went running over there to her family. I had cleaned part of the garage that morning and was wiped out by the time I got home at 9:00.
Was I wiped out because of all the activity or because I was coming down with COVID? It takes a few days to incubate.
My dancing partner friend said, “I thought COVID had gone away.”
Surprise! It has not gone away. It keeps mutating and coming back. What’s a gal to do, except
take it easy and watch a bunch of mindless TV? I can’t even read with this headache.
