The Saga of the Spider

Today at my sister’s board and care home, as I was reading her the newspaper, I glanced out the large sliding glass door and noticed a huge spider web with a spider in the center. It was one and a half inches across and yellow with red stripes on the legs.

I took several photos, and then we went for a walk in the yard. The administrator’s husband was in the living room as we strolled by with the walker.  I told him about the huge spider, and he said he was going to get rid of it.

“But spiders are good!” I said. “They eat insects.”

“We don’t want it in the yard,” he said. “I am going to get rid of it.”

I told my sister on our walk that I was sorry I’d told the administrator about the spider.

“Spiders are good,” I said to Barb.

After our walk I packed up to go home to walk my dogs and eat lunch.

As I was leaving, I commented to the caregiver that I was sorry Jeffrey killed the spider.

“Oh, no, I didn’t kill it,” Edwin said. “I don’t like killing things.”

Edwin saved the day. Yes, the spider had to spin its web anew, but at least it was still alive.

Thank you Edwin.

Thank you, Spider, for eating all those insects.

On another note, I decided to stop arguing with the Facebook guy. Life is too short. I am not going to change him. He will still be an ass. I turned off notifications for the post. He’s the same guy who said young people shouldn’t march about climate change because they can’t live without their iphones. He’s right up there with everyone insulting Greta Thunberg because she has Asperger’s.

Asses, all of them. There is no logic to any of it. Just hatred and self righteousness.

Wake up, world.  The young people have woken up. They know what to do.
