The chorus is doing American music through the Ages, from the Revolution to Hamilton. There are medleys and mash-ups and lots of words to memorize. The notes are easy, the words, not so much.
We ae singing Stephen Foster tribute: Beautiful Dreamer, Swanee River, Some Folks, Camptown Races, Oh, Susanna, Plink a plink.
We are singing Yankee Doodle, My Country Tis of Thee, Let Freedom Ring.
Red River Valley, The Old Chisholm Trail, Crawdad Stuff, Skip to my Lou.
Battle Hymn of the Republic.
Keep Marching (from Suffs)
A fifties medley of ten songs: Rock Around the Clock, At the Hop, Who Put the Bomp, The Book of Love, Bye Bye Love, Sincerely, Can’t Help Falling in Love, Jailhouse Rock, Great Balls of Fire, Whole Lotta Shakin.’
Scarborough Fair mashed up with The Sound of Silence.
Seventies TV Theme Medley: Bandstand Boogie, Happy Days, Brady Bunch, Laverne and Shirley, Love Boat.
Nothin’ Gonna Stumble My Feet (Slavery, Reconstruction).
Hamilton
The small groups have more songs, but I don’t need to memorize those, thank goodness.
That’s like thirty plus songs, lots to learn for my aging brain. It’s a good exercise, better than doing crossword puzzles, not as good as learning a new language or a new dance step.
This is a short post, because what else can I say? I drive around on Mondays and Tuesdays, buying tea cups at thrift stores and singing along with my Choir Genius songs. Yes, I look silly at stoplights, but I don’t care.
I sold 104 tea cups on Saturday, so it’s like killing two birds with one stone.
Sing, buy, sing, buy, sing, buy.
Repeat.
The concerts are May 2nd and 3rd. See you there.
