Serendipity and Tea Cups

Tuesday is senior day at many of my thrift stores and Ten per cent Tuesday at another one on the circuit. I headed out this morning with high hopes for some great dishes (I sell them on Facebook Marketplace).

The first thrift store after my massage and grocery run had beautiful Spode dinner plates. I shouldn’t have bought them, but I did — for me, not to sell.

The second thrift store didn’t have much but I still managed to fill two bags of half-off stuff.

The third thrift store was where I donated an arm chair that I’ve had on the driveway for weeks. It was supposed to go out on recycle day but I didn’t get it to the curb on time.  I bought a bunch of dishes and a very cool sign mad e out of plywood with words cut into it, rules for the playroom, but actually it could also be rules for living. It’s huge, and even though I don’t have a playroom, I feel as though I might use it someday somewhere. It’s just that cool and well worth the $16.00 I paid for it.

Then at the Goodwill across the street, I walked in and found an antique red arm chair (I know, I just donated one), but this chair was old, and had an etched design on the chair back, was a deep burgundy red, and with the senior discount, was only $5.09.  I carried it to my car and then came back for dishes. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found nine tea cups and saucers just like the ones I bought Friday in Carmel at the big half-off sale and then sold yesterday to a party planner (she bought 8). What are the odds?  Anyway, anything that sells in two days is worth repeating.

Then I dropped off a bag of my apples at a friend’s house, skipped another thrift store (I was getting tired) and stopped at the last one, where I wanted a Bavarian tea pot that would have been 75% off if someone hadn’t already bought it. I missed it because I was in Monterey the day the prices changed. Anyway, I found two garden pots and six pieces of Bavarian dishes for $9 for the six. It included a dinner plate, a platter, and smaller platter, an oval bowl, plus two more gold-edged pieces. Gold touches are really popular with everyone, way more than silver edges.

Now I am writing this blog post and resting up for my second chorus rehearsal where we all need to “bump it up” this semester because we are performing once again with the Diablo Symphony. The chorus is going digital with sign-ins and song part updates, and I hope my old Android phone and I are up to the task. We shall see . . .

In the meantime, I washed and dried most of today’s purchases, bagged up some tea cup sets, too, so I am already pooped.
