When you have property near the coastline of the deepest ocean on the planet, you might find yourself worrying about a variety of things that could happen to your house and property. Tonight it’s a tsunami worry. An 8.7 earthquake (ee gad) off the eastern coast of Russia has triggered a tsunami warning for the entire West coast. If it happens, it will happen at my beach house at 12:15 a.m.
It’s only been four days since a plane crashed within two blocks of the same property. I recognized the corner on Sunset Drive on the TV news videos.
A week before that, it was the fear of a gas leak when my PG & E bill was hundreds of dollars higher than expected. It turns out the meter reader read the meter wrong.
They say bad things come in sets of three, so maybe the bad news will stop now.
There was no gas leak.
Three people died on that small aircraft that went down in the ocean.
The tsunami may or may not happen.
If the ocean pulls back and exposes lots of shore, that’s your cue to RUN. Preferably uphill. Because you are moments away from a wall of water that will sweep you out to sea if you don’t grab onto a tree limb or some other stationary thing. The biggest tsunami ever (in Indonesia) that killed 228,000 people in the year 2004 was survived by those who grabbed and held on.
I am not there now. I will know in the morning what did or did not happen. I saw it on the news and then received two text messages on my phone, one in English and one in Spanish. I called three neighbors down there to make sure they knew about it. It’s three hours away from 12:15 a.m.
To Be Continued . . .
